Kasa Afrika Market is a family-owned shop specialized in African art. We were born and raised in Africa and we travel annually to the African continent, selecting each piece in our inventory, building long-term relationships with craftsmen and artisans from many regions around Africa in order to bring something special and affordable to you.
African art and African crafts are extremely rich and varied — the artisans demonstrate skill and innovation in each of their design crafts or true works of art with simple natural and traditional materials such as the ebony, rosewood or sandalwood, but also with recycled materials from their surroundings that have become “modern”, such as retransformed tin cans.
Kasa Afrika offers a selection of African handicrafts created specifically for our online shop, and whose beauty we particularly appreciate, and which will find their place in your home decor.
If there is any product that you may be interested in, irrelevant of shape or size we try our best to get it to you. Most of our goods are handmade so the pieces that you do order are unique and made by genuine African artisans who use this as their source of income.
Kasa Afrika also has delegations in Africa for export direct to customers throughout the world, providing art shops, souvenirs, exhibitions, and antique shops.
KASA AFRIKA
OUR STORY
Kasa Afrika is a sub-division of an art gallery, founded in 1998 by visionary connoisseur and art dealer Seydou Mamadou Keita (1962 – present), the gallery known today as African Arte has been standing for over half a century. Seydou Mamadou Keita has his origins from Niame, Mali and graduated in engineering, with a specialty in mining geology from the University of Bamako. He emigrated to Portugal in 1986 due to the political instability in Mali. Portugal was a safe heaven and offered new opportunities. He worked in construction for a period of time and then traveled to Spain, where he met some counterparts from Kenya and Senegal. He was introduced to the world of African art trading. He always had a deep interest in art since a very young age and that revived some childhood memories. He realized then and there that was his true calling, he wanted to turn this passion into a career.
The owner spent 7 years in Spain trading and studying African Art in all its forms, the different tribes, its culture, and history. He traveled to Africa on multiple occasions and built a groundwork in the global connections of African art. He attended many expositions and international fairs while in Spain, and traveled to other European countries.
